Wedding Day
I married my wife and business partner one year ago today.
My daughter stood beside me.
And I wore my mother’s gown, sort of.
As she had worn her mother’s gown, sort of.
Each time, the dress was altered a bit. Mom changed the neckline from a plunging sweetheart to a prim and proper ruffled collar. I cut off the whole bodice, wearing the train over my stretchy jersey dress. I expect it isn’t through morphing yet…
I held my mother’s hand as she took her last breath.
I sat at the foot of her mother’s bed as she stopped breathing.
I wore my mother’s wedding gown as I breathlessly married my true love.
So today I feel deeply the line of women before me and the line of women that will come to be.
